PSG looking to cash-in on striker after unimpressive performances this season

Striker Goncalo Ramos could leave Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) just six months after signing for the club from Benfica for €65 million.

As per reports from French outlet L’Equipe, Parisians manager Luis Enrique is not convinced by Ramos’ ability, especially in big games. This has led to the Spaniard deciding to let the Portuguese forward leave should the right offer come in.

There are also increasing doubts about whether Ramos was a good fit for the current PSG team in the first place. The player was signed on the back of an impressive performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup for Portugal, where he scored three goals and provided one assist in four appearances.

Goncalo Ramos also enjoyed a stellar season with Benfica last time around. He made 47 appearances for them across competitions, scoring 27 goals and providing 12 assists for his teammates in nearly 3,478 minutes of football.

However, he hasn’t been able to replicate that form at PSG this season. Ramos has made 19 appearances across competitions, scoring four goals and providing one assist. He was brought in as a replacement for the outgoing Lionel Messi and Neymar but has failed to produce even a fraction of the pair’s output.

The Parisians also acquired Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt to fill the void left by the superstar pair. However, he too has struggled, having scored seven and assisted two in 20 appearances for the club.

Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has recently been linked with a loan move for Al-Ittihad’s Karim Benzema, with the Frenchman keen on a return to European football. However, no other names have been floated around so far.

While selling Goncalo Ramos and buying a replacement seems far-fetched to complete in January, PSG will be active in the summer transfer market as they try to cut their losses.
