The 28-year-old midfielder had drawn interest from other clubs including Atlético Madrid and Fulham but chose Marseille after discussions with the club’s new manager Roberto de Zerbi.

Having made 184 appearances and scored 10 goals for Tottenham since joining from Southampton in 2020 Højbjerg’s departure was expected following a season of limited first-team opportunities.
