Manchester City Injury Update: Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland to miss FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea?
With a key run of fixtures and the return of Kevin De Bruyne from injury, many Manchester City fans hoped that their side could repeat their treble heroics from last season. But after a dramatic penalty shoot-out against Real Madrid, City crashed out of the Champions League. However, the bigger issue was the fact that both Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne were withdrawn before the shoot-out.
The duo were substituted in extra-time with what looked like injury related issues and Pep Guardiola later confirmed the same in his post match press conference. It has many City fans concerned especially with the fact that the club are still in the FA Cup and the title race. The Cityzens face Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday with Haaland and De Bruyne key components of the squad.

But ahead of the semi-final, Pep Guardiola confirmed that Erling Haaland is a potential doubt for the game against Chelsea. The Spaniard revealed that the Norwegian asked to come off against Real Madrid after he “felt something”, with it being a muscular issue. That could potentially keep him out of a few games although Guardiola never confirmed the same.
He also revealed that De Bruyne feels better now but asked to come off as well against Real Madrid as he was exhausted after his long injury layoff. The City boss added that the Belgian will be monitored on a day to day basis but it is normal for the midfielder to feel this exhausted.
“Kevin [De Bruyne] feels well, Erling [Haaland] we will see. He said a little bit niggles and we’ll see his evolution in the next hours. It was a tough game [against Madrid]. 120 mins of action. High intensity for both sides. Erling felt something. A muscular issue that meant he could not continue,” Guardiola said, reported Metro.
“Kevin was exhausted after five months out injured. That is normal. We will see tomorrow. It’s normal. The number of games this season and previous seasons, not much recovery and extra time and the high-intensity way we play. We put a lot of pressure in our game. They are human beings, not machines and sometimes fatigue is there.”
