Pep Guardiola claims Man City’s Premier League dominance could be over
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola slumped to a fourth successive defeat for the first time in his managerial career. The Spaniard admitted that City’s grip over the Premier League might be slipping away following their shocking 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday night.
The defending Premier League champions succumbed to their fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions allowing Liverpool to move five points clear at the top of the English top-flight.
Guardiola, the man who has turned Man City into one of the footballing powerhouses is facing one of the stringent tests of his nine-year tenure with the English champions. The dream of winning a fifth successive Premier League title looks bleak now, despite over half of the season still to play.
How has Pep Guardiola reacted to Man City’s turbulent form?
The Premier League champions have been rocked by crucial injuries since the start of the season and for the first time in Guardiola’s managerial career, he has been beaten four times in a row.
The Spaniard admitted he’s brilliant run with Man City could come to an end and suggested the possibility of losing the Premier League title this season.
“Is the era going to come to an end, for sure, it’s not eternal,” Guardiola said after the Brighton defeat. “For the next 56 years City are not going to win every game in the Premier League, that’s for sure, but try to be there, why not, this is what I would like.”
“Normally people lose games,” Guardiola added. “Always a first time in your life. This is my challenge, our challenge. I like to face it. I will not step back at all, less than ever. More than ever I want to do it and we will try again.”
