Patrick Schick in doubt for Czechia’s Euro 2024 fixture against Turkey due to injury concerns
Czechia might be forced to play without their star forward Patrick Schick against Turkey
Czechia’s head coach Ivan Hasek has insisted that his team might be forced to take the pitch in their next UEFA Euro 2024 match against Turkey without their star striker Patrick Schick. This news surfaced after the 28-year-old forward had to be taken off after potentially suffering an injury scare in the second half of Czechia’s recent match against Georgia.
Schick brought his side back into the game by scoring a well-finished equaliser against Georgia. But, pretty soon after his goal, he left the pitch. Schick reportedly hobbled off the pitch in what seemed to be a major injury worry for him. Now, the team’s coach Ivan Hasek has inflicted his thoughts on the bleak chances of the striker’s availability for their upcoming Georgia match.

On the 28-year-old’s chances of making it to the Georgia game and how the team management sees it, Coach Ivan Hasek stated, “Schick was in the care of doctors, physiotherapists and masseurs for two days, the injury is getting better. We’ll see tomorrow”, Hasek reportedly inflicted leading into their last Group F fixture for the Euro 2024. “He is a key player, one of the top scorers in Europe, but if he’s not ready, somebody will have to replace him and I believe they will be ready for that”.
In terms of other options, Czechia does possess players like – Mojmir Chytil, Adam Hlozek, Jan Kutcha, and Tomas Chory. Except Mojmir Chytil all of them have only featured once for his country so far in the ongoing Euros. However, either Jan Kutcha or Adam Hlojek could be the player starting for the Czechia against Turkey if Patrick Schick remains unavailable for the match.
Patrick Schick has started both games for Czechia in their Euro 2024 campaign so far
Patrick Schick has started both games for the Czechia so far in their Group F fixtures of the UEFA Euro 2024 against Portugal and Georgia. He arrived at Euro 2024 on the back of his scintillating performances for Bayer Leverkusen in the 2023-24 Bundesliga season.
Schick had nine goal contributions (seven goals and two assists) in his 20 appearances for the German club in the recently concluded season. What stood out was that he only started about 35 per cent of the games for Xabi Alonso’s side in the season. The Czech fans would be hoping that he would be able to replicate such performances in the Euro 2024 and carry his team forward as far as he can in the competition.
