Netflix approaches Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah and more over documentary series

Ever since the arrival of Mohamed Salah in the Premier League, forwards within England’s premier football league have taken their games up another notch. The Egyptian’s record-breaking debut season shocked and awed many with Sadio Mane, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and many others also scoring their fair share of goals. Since then, goals have been flying in with Harry Kane and even Jamie Vardy winning the Golden Boot.

However, Manchester City signed Erling Haaland and the Norwegian superstar then changed the game by demolishing Salah’s record with a 36 goal season in the league. It was the first time since the Egyptian that a forward had broken the 30 goal mark with nobody coming close.

That has seen players kick things up a notch again this term with Haaland only two goals ahead of the next closest competitor for the Golden Boot. So much so, that it has inspired Netflix to attempt to create a documentary on the art of goal-scoring.

Netflix approaches Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah and Ollie Watkins for docu-series

The Daily Mail has reported that the streaming giant has been partly inspired by the success of Quarterback and has approached several Premier League forwards over a similar series. Quarterback, an eight-episode series, was released in July of last year and was a resounding success as it allowed fans to get an insight into three NFL quarterbacks during the 2022 NFL season. The Mail has reported that Netflix want to do something similar with goalscoring and have thus targeted the English top tier.

The Mail has revealed that the streaming giant has already approached Erling Haaland. However, their offer has been turned down by the Norwegian which has seen Netflix also touch base with Salah and Ollie Watkins. Yet, it is unclear whether either forward would be interested in the proposal although the report has indicated that Netflix is targeting the 2024/25 season.

This comes after Amazon Prime’s success with the All or Nothing series within football with Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Juventus, Brazil and Germany all allowing filming. The series has been met with a lot of praise and criticism although fans across the world have well received the insight the series has offered.
