The Gunners are hoping to complete the move for Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino by this week, despite the decision over a transfer fee for the 28-year-old midfielder not yet fixed. Merino was one of the standout performers in Euro 2024 this summer and his performances has caught the attention of several European clubs.

Atletico Madrid and Barcelona were interested in signing the Spaniard, but he has prioritised a move to the Emirates Stadium after agreeing on personal terms with the North London giants.

The transfer fee is said to be over €25 million, which is a steal deal for a player who has entered the final year of his contract with Real Sociedad.
