Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe accused of rape in Sweden
Shocking reports have emerged that Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has been accused of rape in Sweden. A woman has allegedly filed a complaint against the French Star, who was spotted in a nightclub in Sweden last week on the night of France’s victory over Israel in the Nations League. It is also stated that the 2018 World Cup winner is being investigated by the Swedish Police.
Mbappe denies sexual allegations in Sweden
Recovering from a thigh injury, Mbappe was not called up for this month’s friendlies, however, he had made a trip to Sweden’s capital Stockholm on the night of France’s 4-1 win over Israel. Reports from Sweden further claim that the former Paris Saint-Germain star had dinner at the Chez Jolie restaurant before making a stop at a nightclub named V, where the alleged sexual assault happened. The purported victim was said to have filed a complaint on Monday, with the police now looking into the matter.
However, the Real Madrid forward has shrugged off the accusations, labelling it as fake news on X. He further stressed that these kinds of things are predictable ahead of his hearing. The 25-year-old is scheduled for a trial before a French League committee on Tuesday over his wages dispute with his former club PSG. According to the French superstar, Les Parisiens owes him €55 million in unpaid salary and bonuses.
France national team boss Didier Deschamps also hit back at the reports, claiming that Mbappe getting surrounded by controversy affects the whole team. “Everyone is free to write what they want but there is a negative atmosphere,” said Deschamps. “Be careful when you pick things up. You had better take a bit of a step back before publishing anything and everything, but these things happen so often. There are things that are not difficult to verify, but if you credit any old thing. In any case, I am not going to talk to him about it. He is big enough to know how to communicate.”
Meanwhile, a representative for Mbappe warned that legal action would be taken against Swedish media for spreading fake rumours. “A new slanderous rumour is starting to set the web ablaze, originating from the Swedish media AFTONBLADET and EXPRESSEN,” said the Real Madrid star’s representative.
“These accusations are totally false and irresponsible, and their spread is unacceptable. Kylian Mbappé will not tolerate under any circumstances that his integrity, reputation and honor be tarnished by unfounded insinuations.
“In order to put an end to this methodical destruction of his image, all necessary legal actions will be taken to re-establish the truth and pursue any person or media involved in the moral harassment and defamatory treatment that Kylian Mbappé repeatedly suffers.”
Similarly, Mbappe’s lawyer Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard labelled the reports a ‘slanderous denunciation’ and her client remains calm despite the allegations.
Mbappe sustained a thigh injury against Alaves last month, which saw him miss a couple of games before returning to Real’s squad for the Champions League game against Lille. France decided not to take a potential risk, leaving him out of national duty, which came in as good news for Los Blancos. Mbappe, who has netted seven goals for Madrid this season, is expected to be in better shape for the weekend’s game against Celta Vigo.
