Maximiliano Araujo injury: the player was spotted wearing a neck brace while leaving the field
Uruguay national football team’s midfielder Maximiliano Araujo had to be taken off the pitch in a hand-carried stretcher after going through a major neck brace in his team’s Copa America 2024 match against the USA. The player spottingly moved in centrally inside the penalty area while his teammate Nicolas de la Cruz took a corner.
Leading to the ball reaching inside the penalty area a collision between USA’s Tim Ream and Uruguay’s Ronald Araujo led Maximiliano Araujo to fall awkwardly and land on his head, reportedly snapping his neck area, after losing his initial balance. The medical staff rushed to the field after players present at the scene signaled in panic toward them.
Maximiliano Araujo was carried off the field after the medical staff attached a neck brace to support the affected body area. The player was also spotted doing a thumps up towards the supporters in the stand while leaving the ground.

The Uruguayan manager Marcelo Bielsa used Cristian Olivera as the substitute to fill Araujo’s place. The Uruguayan FA reportedly laid down a message on their official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle after the first half. “Maximiliano Araujo is fine, he had to be replaced due to a head injury. The corresponding tests will be carried out”, their post stated when translated into English.
Uruguay went on to win the match by a scoreline of 0-1 through the help of Mathias Olivera’s 66th-minute goal. Their victory knocked the hosts USA out of the Copa America 2024.
