Martin Zubimendi to Liverpool is still a possibility

Liverpool’s new era, under head coach Arne Slot, suffered a jolt in its first move itself when Martin Zubimendi decided to reject their offer and stay at Real Sociedad early this transfer window. Since that failed move, Liverpool remains the only club without a player signed among all English first-division sides.

The transfer window is about to be over in less than two weeks now. The arrival of none and departure of key players like Fabio Carvalho and the retirement of Thiago Alcantara have surely made things tough for Slot.

However, the Reds might have just got a lifeline now. Their biggest target in this window, Martin Zubimendi might still join them! Recently, Spanish outfit Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil revealed that offers for their good players come every season from various clubs. He further added that he won’t be able to assure if Zubimendi leaves or not (in the) last minute. 

Alguacil further explained that his concerns come amid the departure of other key players like Robin Le Normand, who left for Atletico Madrid while EPL giants Arsenal are trying to sign Mikel Merino. Liverpool were also willing to pay the release clause for Zubimendi but to the surprise of many, he refused.

Martin Zubimendi’s call to stay loyal to Sociedad received praise from Imanol Alguacil but anything can happen in the last few days of the transfer window. Liverpool, without a player signed yet, would be desperate to make big moves, offers which players can’t resist.

25-year-old Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi had a perfect 2023-24 with his club, featuring in 45 games across the three major competitions- La Liga, UEFA Champions League, and Copa del Rey.
