Manchester United legend David de Gea endures miserable debut with Fiorentina
David de Gea did not enjoy the best start to his time with Fiorentina in Italy. He made his debut against Hungarian side, Puskas FC Academy in the UEFA Conference League playoffs final. His first outing did not go to plan as the opponents were able to find the back of his net twice in the first 12 minutes. The former Manchester United shot-stopper was unable to keep out a penalty from Zsolt Nagy which was followed by a ferocious shot from Mikael Soisalo.
The 33-year-old also did not have the best of games as far as his passing was concerned. He only was able to manage an underwhelming 33% of successful long balls. United fans were quick to take advantage of the opportunity and relive their frustrations with De Gea on social media. “De Gea has just conceded 2 goals in the opening 15 minutes to a club called PuskĆ”s Akademia in Fiorentinaās UECL qualifiers.”, were the thoughts of one fan on X.

As the game progressed the Spaniard was able to make amends with a couple of key saves. However, his year-long sabbatical has clearly disrupted the form and technique for which he is renowned worldwide. David de Gea left his long-time home, Manchester United in 2023 after discussions with Erik ten Hag. Since then, rumours around his future have flooded the transfer market with Fiorentina expressing the firmest interest in one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time.
David de Gea might reunite with Victor Lindelof at Fiorentina
David de Gea will be glad to hear the reports of Fiorentina registering an interest in his former teammate at Manchester United, Victor Lindelof. According to Italian reporter, Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serie A side is working out the conditions for a probable deal. The signing will undoubtedly not be easy but the fact that his contract expires next summer might swing the conditions in favour of Fiorentina.
The arrivals of Lenny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt have pushed Victor Lindelof down the centre-back order. The Swedish defender will look at this move as a favourable and relevant one at this stage of his career. The arrival of a known name and friend can prove to be just the impetus required for David de Gea to kickstart his Fiorentina career positively.
