Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings – The Reds turn the deficit around in style to meet Newcastle in the final

Liverpool book a ticket to the final of the Carabao Cup, after an emphatic 4-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur, thanks to goals from Gakpo, Salah, Szoboszlai and Van Dijk. They will now face Newcastle United at Wembley on March 16th.

The Reds dominated proceedings right from the very first whistle and did well to get themselves level 1-1 on aggregate, courtesy of top-scorer Gakpo netting his fifth goal in the EFL Cup. Liverpool have had the lion’s share of possession and did well to pin Spurs back in their own half right from the beginning. Slot’s side didn’t fashion too many clear-cut chances, but Salah’s lovely trivela cross set up Gakpo to score the opener in the 34th minute. The winger lifted the ball into the box, in between Tottenham’s defensive lines, and it landed nicely for Gakpo, who tucked it away on the bounce. Spurs managed one shot in the first half, and lost another player to injury as Richarlison was substituted just before the break, with Tel taking his place.

Liverpool continued to test Kinsky in the second half, forcing the Spurs keeper into making an impressive six saves. The hosts were awarded a penalty early in the second half as Kinsky came off his line to bring Nunez down. Salah was stylish from the spot, smashing the ball into the top corner to extend Liverpool’s lead. In the 75th minute, Szoboszlai combined beautifully with Bradley in a quick counter-attack to give the Reds a three-goal cushion, while Van Dijk added further gloss with a towering header just five minutes later.
