Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara sidelined due to another injury setback
Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara is set to spend more time on the sidelines after suffering another injury setback after returning only recently.
Thiago returned to action for the first time in the Reds’ 3-1 Premier League loss at Arsenal on February 4. He came on as a substitute in the last five minutes but has suffered another injury setback.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said in a press conference on Friday (February 9):
“Thiago obviously not cool. Everything looked fantastic in training. We had the opportunity to give him a few minutes. It’s a muscle issue. We don’t know the extent yet. But it’s not cool.”
When asked if he sees Thiago featuring again for the Reds this season, Klopp said:
“Yes. But we didn’t really think about that. We need a full assessment & to know exactly where it came from. It’s not a big big injury. But it’s obviously something.”
Thiago’s appearance against Arsenal was his first since April last year. He suffered a hip injury and underwent surgery, missing in action since April. The recent setback will certainly be massively disappointing for the Spaniard.

Since arriving at Liverpool from Bayern Munich in 2020, Thiago has missed almost 100 games due to injuries. He has registered three goals and six assists in 98 games for the Reds.
The 32-year-old midfielder’s contract at Anfield is set to expire in the summer. He is unlikely to sign a new contract and leave as a free agent. Saudi Arabian clubs have been linked with a potential move for Thiago.
