Liverpool plotting move for PL proven Chelsea defender to add to their squad depth
Liverpool are targeting Chelsea defender Levi Colwill to add to their squad depth as Jurgen Klopp looks to push the team towards the Premier League title.
This is as per reports from talkSPORT, which add that the Reds want the defender but a move in January is unlikely to materialize.
Levi Colwill, who recently signed a contract extension until June 2029, has been a first-team regular under Mauricio Pochettino this season. The England international has made 24 appearances, providing three assists in the process.
Colwill has the ability to play at both centre-back as well as left back, making him one of the Blues’ most prized assets. Standing at 6-foot-2, he has pace, power and considerably good aerial ability and has been compared to John Terry. Colwill can also carry the ball forward to create attacks, something which Liverpool need for their style of play.
However, the Reds will have to fork up a tremendous amount of money for the 20-year-old who is currently a mainstay in Pochettino’s plans.
Jurgen Klopp remains determined to add to his squad depth, though. Andrew Robertson is out with a long-term shoulder injury and Konstantinos Tsimikas is the only other natural left back. Adding a player of Levi Colwill’s calibre could help the squad navigate congested schedules.
Joe Gomez has often been deployed on the left side of defence despite being right-footed. Left-footed Colwill could prove to be the ideal addition should Liverpool be able to agree on a fee.
Chelsea are likely to demand well upwards of £60 million for their academy graduate, and will not let the player leave in January. It remains to be seen whether Colwill shows any indication of wanting to leave, or remains at his boyhood club.
