Argentina beat Canada 2-0 to reach the finals of the 2024 Copa America, with Lionel Messi bagging his first goal of the tournament. The Argentine skipper doubled their advantage in the 51st minute by poking home a shot from Enzo Fernandez beyond Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau.
The Maple Leaves claimed offside but replays showed Messi’s positioning was perfect, allowing the goal to stand. That was his 109th goal for the national team, surpassing Iran’s legend Ali Daei to become the second-highest scorer of all-time, behind only arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo (130).
