Leicester City 3-1 West Ham: Player Ratings as Ruud van Nistelrooy Begins Managerial Reign with a Victory

Ruud van Nistelrooy has made a winning start to his career as the Leicester City manager. The Foxes won 3-1 at home and eased pasted West Ham United.

Jamie Vardy scored inside the first two minutes of the match but had to wait for a lengthy VAR check before he could celebrate. The Foxes were pinged back for the rest of the half but managed to get to half-time with the 1-0 lead.

The match continued to flow in the same direction in the second half, and West Ham United thought they had one back, but the goal was chalked off for a foul on the goalkeeper Hermansen.

Leicester City woke up and scored seconds later to make it 2-0 against the run of play. El Khannous, who assisted the opening goal, turned scorer for the second before Daka sealed the win for the home side in injury time – a minute before Danny Ings scored for the Hammers.

Goalkeeper

Mads Hermansen – 9.5: Nothing more he could have done today. Seven saves, and hardly got anything wrong between the posts.

Defender

James Justin – 8: Sat back and defended. Looked like he had got injured at the end of the first half but played the whole match.

Conor Coady – 8.5: A goalline clearance and a rock-solid display at the back. Never looked troubled by the West Ham forwards.

Jaanik Vestergaard – 8: Marked Ings in the first half and when there was pace needed in the second half, he was taken off before the 60th minute.

Victor Kristiansen – 8.5: A brilliant display at the back, as he never looked out of position. Kept on Bowen’s toes and made it hard for the West Ham man.

Midfielders

Bounakary Soumare – 7: The midfielder was decent today and looked set to make things difficult for the West Ham players.

Wilfried Ndidi – 7.5: Surprised a few with decent runs into the box when least expected but did not score. However, he was solid in the midfield and commanded the play today.

Kasey McAteer – 7: Nothing great today, as he just could not get the basics right.

Facundo Buonanotte – 8: Kept the ball ticking and was one looking to keep hold of the ball in the team while every treated it like hot potato.

Bilal El Khannouss – 9: A goal and an assist but still not the man of the match. That’s going to hurt the Leicester City man, but the win should ease the pain.

Forwards

Jamie Vardy – 7: The striker scored the first goal and that was his only significant contribution in the game. Had as many shots in the match as passes today – 3.

Substitutes

Wout Faes – 6

Patson Daka – 8

Bobby Decordova-Reid – 7

Stephy Mavididi – 6

Jordan Ayew – 6

Manager

Ruud van Nistelrooy- 9: Spot on with the starting XI, tactics, and also the substitutions. There was nothing more he could do today.

Goalkeeper

Lukas Fabianski – 3: The goalkeeper just could not do anything right today. He could have done a lot better for all three goals.

Defenders

Vladimir Coufal – 4.5: He got booked and did very little to show his worth on the pitch.

Konstantinos Mavropanos – 6.5: Decent compared to the others but his best contribution was in attack. Had three shots but could not get on the scoresheet.

Max Kilman – 6.5: The defender was also decent in attack, more than defense. Should have done a lot better in closing down the Leicester attackers.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6: Played out of position today and still did decently well.

Midfielders

Edson Alvarez – 6.5: Got the better of his duels today and still did well compared to the others on the pitch.

Tomas Soucek – 6: The midfielder will be thinking about his ‘foul’ on the goalkeeper a lot for the next few days as it could have changed the whole game around but it went the other way.

Jarrod Bowen – 7: The Englishman showed why he is the West Ham captain but never got any support.

Carlos Soler – 6.5: Controlled the midfield when he had the ball but his shots were just could not help his sides get back in the game.

Mohammed Kudus – 7: The West Ham United star looked rusty after making his return for the club from his suspension.

John McGinn – 7: The best player for Aston Villa as he kept pushing for a goal from the start to the very end. However, he got no help.

Forwards

Danny Ings – 5: He could not do much when he was on the first for the first half. Looked like he picked up an injury and was taken off at half time.

Lucas Paquetá – 6.5

Michail Antonio – 6

Niclas Füllkrug – 7
