Pulisic made his debut for Borussia Dortmund at the age of 16. Since his grandfather was European, he got an European passport and was eligible to play at an early age. He impressed the then Dortmund’s manager Thomas Tuchel with his sporadic performances off the bench. He was the youngest non-German and fourth-youngest player to score a goal in the Bundesliga. These performances earned him a contract extension with the club.

Pulisic continued to impress and slowly garnered interest from elite Champions League clubs across Europe. In the January window of 2019, Pulisic was signed for a record fee of £58 million.
