Leicester City 0-3 Manchester United Player Ratings: Bruno Runs the Show for the Red Devils as Foxes’ Relegation Woes Deepen
Manchester United made three changes to their side with Yoro, Casemiro, and Joshua Zirkzee making way for Ayden Heaven, Manuel Ugarte, and Rasmus Højlund. Leicester, on the other hand, decided to go with an unchanged side for this game.
The Foxes started things off in bright fashion at the King Power Stadium. A long, raking ball found Jamie Vardy’s run early doors, and his shot stung Andre Onana’s palms, leading to the crowd getting behind the veteran Englishman.
From thereon, the Red Devils began taking control of proceedings as they began keeping more of the ball and getting more of their players involved. However, the long spells of possession did not translate into clear-cut opportunities as the Leicester defense was vigilant enough to keep their shape intact. This meant that United were restricted to taking potshots from distance that did not trouble the Leicester City goalkeeper at all. Manuel Ugarte fancied his luck on two such chances, but hit his shots high and wide of goal.
The game then lulled into this pattern for the next 5 to 10 minutes, as Man United had plenty of the ball, while Leicester were more than happy to let them have it, relying on the pace and verve of their forward line on the break. However, in the 23rd minute, the Red Devils almost took the lead as a quick piece of interplay between Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen from a corner saw the latter unleash a first-time curler at the far corner from distance that crashed into the underside of the crossbar.
5 minutes later, though, Man United would get the opening goal that their performance deserved. A diagonal from Fernandes found Rasmus Højlund who used his pace and power to perfection as he struck a fierce, low shot into the far bottom corner. It was a goal that finally saw the Dane heave a sigh of relief in celebration.
The rest of the half saw Leicester get a couple of good chances, but they were thwarted by some very good last-ditch blocks from teenager Ayden Heaven. Bilal El Khannous saw yellow for a reckless lunge as the first half drew to a close without any further incident.
The second half was a classic case of more of the same with Man United looking to build on their lead and Leicester just going through the motions. United suffered a further blow early in the half when Heaven was stretchered off with what looked like a nasty knee injury.
United kept creating chances with Bruno Fernandes orchestrating the midfield, and the visitors thought they doubled their lead after a smart finish from Garnacho, but the linesman raised his flag for offside. Garnacho was not to be denied the second time as a pinball in the Leicester penalty area fell kindly for Bruno, who laid it off for the Argentine, who shot first-time and found the back of the net.
After being provider for the two goals, Bruno turned scorer on the stroke of the 90th minute as a Dalot cutback found its way to the Portuguese who smashed a stunning effort from range into the bottom corner, emphatically sealing the three points for the Red Devils.
Let’s take a look at the Leicester vs Manchester United Player Ratings:
Leicester City Player Ratings

GK- Mads Hermansen- 4/10
The Leicester goalie could do nothing about the opening goal, but should have done better for the second after getting a hand on Garnacho’s shot. Had nothing to do otherwise.
CB- Wout Faes- 5/10
The Belgian defender was decent in winning his aerial duels and contested headers. Could not prevent Højlund from opening the scoring as he could not keep up with the Dane’s pace
CB- Conor Coady- 5/10
Was culpable for the opening goal as he failed to track Højlund’s run from right in front of his eyes. Was decent otherwise.
CB- Luke Thomas- 5/10
Was the good spot in an underwhelming back three for the Foxes. But that does not say much. Got forward on occasion but could not make much progress.
RWB- James Justin- 5/10
Tried to create something from his side whenever he got the ball, but could not find much joy. More than held his own defensively.
CM- Wilfred Ndidi- 5.5/10
The Nigerian international was his usual combative self as he grew in the game after a slow start. Got booked late in the second half.
CM- Boubakary Soumare- 6/10
Was probably one of the few bright spots for Leicester. Got his angles all wrong as he failed to clear Bruno’s pass that led to the opening goal. Full of hard running and industry thereafter as he tried to influence proceedings with his physicality.
LWB- Victor Kristiansen- 5/10
Not much to write about in terms of his performance. Was just there.
RF- Patson Daka- 5/10
The Zambian had his hands full as he came up against Ayden Heaven. Tried to get past the youngster on multiple occasions but failed to do so.
ST- Jamie Vardy- 6/10
An industrious performance from the old fox as always. Was full of his usual running and intensity. Had a shot saved early in the first half, and his cutback almost led to a goal in the second.
LF- Bilal el Khannous- 5/10
Did not showcase much of his talent that he has been showing throughout the season. Was booked in the first half for a reckless lunge.
Sub- Facundo Buonanotte- 4/10
Was brought on to make an impact on the game. A couple of neat touches but not enough to influence the result.
Sub- Harry Winks- 4/10
Tried to make things happen, but his teammates did not seem to be on the same wavelength.
Sub- Kasey McAteer- 4/10
Was brought in too late. Failed to make an impact.
Sub- Stephy Mavdidi- 4/10
Was brought in too late. Failed to make an impact.
Sub- Jordan Ayew- 3/10
Was brought in too late. Failed to make an impact.
Manager- Ruud van Nistelrooy- 4/10
The Dutchman just cannot seem to get his team back on track. Whatever he is trying just does not seem to work. His team has seemed to have downed tools and accepted the fate of relegation.

Manchester United Player Ratings

GK- Andre Onana- 6/10
Did not have much to do. An overall comfortable outing for the Cameroonian
CB- Matthijs de Ligt- 7/10
Was a rock in the backline for the Red Devils. Had a huge block in the second half to keep the score at 2-0.
CB- Victor Lindelof- 6/10
Decent performance by the veteran at the heart of defence. Did his work neatly and tidily.
CB- Ayden Heaven- 7.5/10
The youngster was having a brilliant game until injury cruelly cut it short. A shame because he was United’s best defender by a mile
RWB- Noussair Mazraoui- 7/10
The Moroccan was his usual bundle of energy and industry. His versatility came into play as he played most of the second half as center-back.
CM- Bruno Fernandes- 9/10
2 assists. 1 brilliant goal. What can we say about Fernandes that we already haven’t. He is Manchester United’s talisman and today’s performance only enhanced that notion.
CM- Manuel Ugarte- 6/10
A combative performance after return from injury. Had two shots that were well off target
LWB- Diogo Dalot- 7/10
Was decent overall. A late assist to cap off the game.
RF- Alejandro Garnacho- 7.5/10
Was a lively presence throughout the game with his tireless running and hustle. He was unfortunate that his first goal was ruled out due to offside, but did not have to wait for long with a well-directed shot to end his 24-match goal drought in style.
ST- Rasmus Højlund- 7/10
The relief on his pace was palpable as he ended his 21-match barren run in some style with a right footed shot arrowed in the bottom corner. The goal gave him confidence as he made a nuisance of himself that the Leicester defense found difficult to handle.
LF- Christian Eriksen- 5.5/10
Was an uncharacteristically off-tune performance from the otherwise reliable Danishman. Was a second slower, his first touch off, and his passes not up to the mark. He did have a lovely shot cannon off the crossbar in the first half, but that failed to mask his poor game overall.
Sub- Toby Collyer- 6/10
Was brought on to play as a wing-back after Ayden Heaven was withdrawn. gave a good account of himself as he switched to midfield later on. Did all the right things at the right time.
Sub- Joshua Zirkzee- 6/10
Was always an outball due to his exceptional hold-up play. Did enough with it to keep the ball for his side as they looked to keep their clean sheet intact.
Sub- Casemiro- 6/10
Was brought on to shape up in midfield. Used all his experience as they coasted to the 3 points.
Sub- Harry Amass- 6/10
Made his debut for the Red Devils on his 18th birthday and had a debut to remember. Bombed forward whenever he had the chance and showed enough composure on the ball
Sub- Chido Obi- 5/10
Was brought in too late to see the game off.
Manager- Ruben Amorim- 8/10
This game was another example of how the team is slowly and steadily buying into Amorim’s methods. The players look more and more comfortable in his system. he is making the right tactical moves at the right times, and his substitutions in the game made sure that his side would go home with a clean sheet along with the 3 points to boot.
