UD Las Palmas: Players, Squads, Records and Achievements
Las Palmas Club de Futbol is one of the smallest clubs in Spain that have recently regained their top-flight status. The club was founded on August 22, 1949, as a result of a merger between five clubs in the Canary region. While they aren’t the most illustrious clubs in Spain, they represent a small yet successful model.
Las Palmas are nicknamed Los Amarillos due to their club colors of yellow. Their home stadium is named Estadio Gran Canaria, and the players call themselves “pío-pío” which identifies with the sound of a Canary bird.
Origins of Las Palmas
Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, also known as UD Las Palmas was founded in 1949 as an amalgamation of five smaller clubs in the city. Las Palmas have spent the last three and a half decades in the second and third divisions of Spanish football, which is their current name. In between, they saw a few promotions and multiple demotions before eventually getting promoted to Spanish top-flight La Liga in the 2023/24 season.
