Lamine Yamal breaks record of being the youngest-ever player to provide an assist in the UCL knockout stages

Barcelona took an early lead 12 minutes after kick-off in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain at Camp Nou. It was Raphinha who diverted the ball into the goal using his knee after receiving Lamine Yamal’s low-cut cross.

The goal not only put Barcelona in front on aggregate but a new record was made. Owing to the assist Yamal is now the youngest ever player to assist a goal in the Champions League knockout stage at 16 years and 283 days old. 

Lamine Yamal breaks record with second assist in the Champions League this season

Yamal earned his seventh Champions League start this season out of 10 appearances in total. The 16-year-old has also managed to be in the starting list since the first leg of the knockouts phase against Napoli. 

It was not the first time for Yamal to score an assist this season. He also assisted in the group stage match against Royal Antwerp, which made him the youngest assist provider in the tournament. The feat was previously held by former Barcelona player Bojan Krkic who became the record holder back in November 2007 when he was 17 years and 91 days old.
