Origins of Getafe CF

These five men met at La Marquesina bar and from there on officially formed Club Getafe Deportivo on February 24, 1946.
The club then made its journey through the divisions for the next four decades (36 years to be exact) before being liquidated in 1982 due to a financial crisis. They were reformed as Getafe Club de Fútbol on July 8, 1983, as a merger between Club Getafe Promesas and Club Deportivo Peña Getafe. They began playing in the regional leagues in the 1983-84 season, earning four straight promotions to the Segunda Division B. Their current stadium, Coliseum Alfonso Perez was established in 1998, six years after which they gained promotion to La Liga for the first time.
