Kevin De Bruyne affirms Man City stay but doesn’t rule out a potential future Saudi transfer
Kevin De Bruyne transfer: The Man City midfielder stated his opinion on the chances of a Saudi Pro League move
Man City’s midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne has been linked with a potential Saudi Pro League transfer since the last couple of transfer windows. Reports signified the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad along with a few others as well are interested in acquiring the services of the player.
However, as per a recent post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) by the football transfer market expert ‘Fabrizio Romano’, KDB has cleared the air around his recent future at Premier League club Man City and also reflected his thoughts on the chances of a Saudi Arabian transfer in future.
As per Romano’s post, on the question of “Staying at City?”, De Bryune answered and said – “Yes, yes, I’ve read a lot of headlines about a transfer to Saudi Arabia, but I haven’t spoken to anyone”. “If there’s a good offer and you tell Pep you want to leave then it is possible”. He also mentioned that this procedure may be distinctive at other football clubs. “But I have never indicated that I want to leave”, KDB further inflicted.
“I have more than enough money. But if an absurd amount of money comes then it is also for my family, my relatives, my grandchildren, my great-grandchildren, and my friends”, the Belgian midfielder reportedly stated to HLN. From his statements, it can be inferred that while the Belgian is happy at City currently, he isn’t yet ruling out the chances of a Saudi Pro League transfer.
Also with the kind of player he is, one expects the Saudi sides to continue pursuing their interest in getting him. The current contract of Kevin De Bruyne at Man City expires in June 2025. As of now, there haven’t been any reports of a contract extension or a new contract at the English club for him.
Kevin De Bruyne played a pivotal part in Man City’s 2023-24 Premier League title win despite injury concerns
Kevin De Bruyne suffered a hamstring injury blow during Man City’s match against Burnley in August 2023, he was then out of the on-field action for about five months. He then made his on-field return on January 7, 2024, in an FA Cup tie against Huddersfield Town. A week later he made his Premier League return for Man City against Newcastle United at St James’ Park. KDB starred in a thrilling 2-3 win for his side as he scored and assisted one.
The Belgian attacking midfielder played just 18 games for City in an injury-marked season. But, even in those games, he managed a stellar sum of around 14 goal contributions (four goals and 10 assists). His on-field chemistry with Erling Haaland attributed to Pep Guardiola’s side getting those important wins towards the latter end of the season and lifting the title, when the pressure was severely high with Arsenal bearing down on them in the title race.
