“There will be conversations”: Kevin De Bruyne affirms commitment to Manchester City

Manchester City legend, Kevin De Bruyne has put a rest to the rumours surrounding his future at the club for now. The Belgian captain will witness his City contract expire in the summer of 2025. So far, there has been little movement concerning that situation which has given birth to reports regarding De Bruyne‘s Premier League career. It is expected that the player and the club will reach an agreement soon but until an official announcement is made, City fans will hold their breath tight, hoping for their favourite to stay for many more seasons.

“I haven’t spoken to anyone, I said in the summer I expect a quiet summer and that’s actually what happened. I’ve not been entertained by anybody. I’m sure there will be conversations to be had with City and this will come in the upcoming months”, De Bruyne said in an interview with BBC Radio Manchester. His words indicate that the 33-year-old is indeed open to all the options but will prioritize staying in Manchester. The football world, though, will also catch the midfielder’s thoughts as a sign of preparing himself for a busy transfer saga at the end of the season.

During the pre-season, Pep Guardiola played down the rumours of Kevin De Bruyne leaving Manchester City this summer due to entering his final year of the contract. Guardiola is aware of the importance and qualities De Bruyne brings to his setup. City fans consider him the greatest player in the club’s history. De Bruyne joined the Cityzens in 2015 from Wolfsburg and has scored 103 goals along with providing 171 assists in 386 outings for the Mancunian club. The former Chelsea man also played a pivotal role in City’s treble-winning 2022/23 season.

Kevin De Bruyne invited Saudi interest during the summer

The former Wolfsburg player was vocal about his thoughts on a potential move to the Middle East, “At my age you have to be open to everything, You’re talking about incredible amounts of money in the last stage of my career, you have to think about that”. De Bruyne was honest about seriously considering Saudi Arabian offers but in the end, was convinced by the club leaders to stay at Manchester City. He earns over €470K weekly in the Premier League and can expect that sum to multiply massively by sides in the Saudi Pro League.

On a sporting level, De Bruyne has won everything in European football. The coveted Champions League trophy was the missing piece from his cabinet which he acquired in 2023. Besides that, the Belgian has also lifted six Premier League and two FA Cup titles. It will not be a huge surprise to see him shifting his allegiance to Saudi Arabia in 2025 on the grounds of earning a staggering financial package as well as teaming up with fellow veterans of European football.
