Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp joins Instagram ahead of his final game as manager
Klopp said he wants to stay in touch with the fans
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has joined popular social media platform Instagram just ahead of his final game as their manager. The German is all set to depart Anfield after nine years, and will oversee his last game in charge against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday in the Premier League.
In an effort to stay in touch with the club supporters, Klopp has joined Instagram, and even posted a touching message to the fans in his very first post, wherein he thanked the fans for their support and for giving him “power”. Klopp can be seen opening the clip with:
“Dear Liverpudlians, we’re getting closer to the end”
Then, the video cuts to a scene from Klopp’s press conference right after being unveiled as Liveprool manager, back in October 2015, wherein he says:
“It’s not so important what people think when you come in; it’s much more important what people think when you leave”
The statement is truly fitting of Klopp’s legacy, as he came in when Liverpool were teetering near the mid-table of the League, but leaves with eight trophies under his belt, including the club’s first ever Premier League title.
Since making his Instagram debut just hours ago, Klopp’s account, usernamed “kloppo”, has gained almost a million followers, whereas his video message to the fans has garnered as many number of likes too.
Liverpool have also co-posted an emotional montage of some of Klopp’s best moments at the club, whereas his most recent post was that of an animated video of a young fan paying him a tribute.
Klopp leaves as a true Liverpool legend
Jurgen Klopp might have hoped for a better farewell, perhaps by guiding the side to another Premier League title, but he leaves as a club legend nonetheless. There can be no debate about that. The difference in the club’s stature when he arrived in October 2015, to their standing today, at the time of his departure, is stark. Back then, the Premier League was still a dream. Champions League glory was a thing of the past. Early cup exits were frequent. Nine years later, Klopp leaves by having guided the side to all that and much more. The greatest manager in Liverpool’s history? You bet!
