“Move to Madrid and it’s all good” – Ivan Toney was asked about his ideal season ending

Ivan Toney has just returned to action with Brentford in January from his betting-related suspension. The Jamaican descendant had to spend 245 days away from the pitch after the court said so in May last year. Lately, Toney was asked about his ideal season-ending scenario by Sky Sports. 

The 28-year old is not shy to express his desire to play for a bigger club, adding that it would also be a good story if England win the Euro this summer. Since returning, he has scored four goals in nine games for The Bees, leading him to earn a call-up from Gareth Southgate to join England’s latest squad.

Ivan Toney describes his ideal season-ending scenario

“We start winning games!,” he said. “We win every game from now until the rest of the season. I’ve scored 20 goals, we have nine games left and we’ve kept nine clean sheets. Job’s a good ‘un.

“And then I’m in the mix obviously for the Euros, then we win the Euros! That sounds like a good one!”

Toney refused to speculate about his transfer scenario, saying that he was letting it go with the flow. However, he mentioned that if Brentford really had to sell him, it should be with a decent amount of money. 

“Just let things fall into place. If Brentford was to sell me, they make their money… and I move to Madrid and it’s all good!”

Ivan Toney sheds light in his heated fiasco with manager Thomas Frank

Earlier in February, Toney had expressed his commitment for Brentford at least until the season ended. He even said that his current manager Thomas Frank was not happy with him and wanted the one-capped holder for England to go.

“I’m a Brentford player at the moment, nobody can predict the future,” Toney told the BBC. “Whatever happens, happens but the main focus is do well for Brentford, keep them in the league and keep getting goals and three points.”

“I see that as he doesn’t want me. The manager has said what he’s said but I can’t make clubs come and get me.” 

What sparked such comment from Toney was Frank’s statement to the Danish media about a possibility of the player leaving for another club. 

“It’s quite obvious that Ivan Toney will most likely be sold in the summer,” Frank told Tipsbladet via Talksport. “It can be expensive to sell your best player, but on the other hand, I also know that by summer, he’ll only have a year left on his contract with us.

“We also know what he’s worth. I don’t think there are many strikers in the world who are better than him right now.”
