“It just makes me laugh”: Cole Palmer comments on being level with Erling Haaland in the Golden Boot race

Chelsea star Cole Palmer has admitted that he is still not come to terms that he has the same number of Premier League goals as Erling Haaland this season. He has been the shining light in Chelsea’s team that has often struggled to find the right balance on the field.

Cole Palmer comments on being level with Erling Haaland

Palmer has been in red-hot form since the start of March and that has helped Chelsea significantly. The Blues are slowly climbing up the table and it has come down to the new signing getting 9 goals in his last four Premier League matches.

The stunning form has seen him go level at the top of the Golden Boot race with Haaland. When quizzed about the situation, Palmer told the media:

“It just makes me laugh to be honest. I never thought, this time last year, when I was playing with him, I’d be on the same goals as him, especially with what he was doing in the league last season. It’s just mad.”

Pep Guardiola was quizzed by the media if he regrets selling the Englishman, but the Manchester City manager revealed the real reason behind the transfer. The Spaniard claims that the forward wanted to leave to get regular game time for two seasons, and thus, the move was sanctioned. He said:

“He’s [Cole Palmer] an exceptional player. I said many times, I didn’t give the minutes that maybe he deserved and now he has at Chelsea. I understand completely. He’s a shy guy with a lot of potential. It is what it is. He’s playing fantastic so what can I say? The decision has been made for many reasons.”

He added:

“He was asking for two seasons to leave and I said stay. He said he wanted to leave. What could we do? I said stay because Riyad [Mahrez] is gone, but for two seasons he wanted to leave. After two seasons, what could I say?”

Mauricio Pochettino was happy with the signing and has admitted that Cole Palmer still talks highly of Guardiola. The Chelsea manager said:

“He always talks very highly about them and Pep. I think he understood perfectly that maybe for different reasons he wanted to prove himself in another club. “Because is scoring, maybe he needs to pay attention in different things with things he maybe did not pay attention [before].”

He added:

“That is going to have an influence on how he is going to prepare, how he is going to rest, how he is going to sleep, how he is going to spend the energy that sometimes before he didn’t spend. That’s why we need to be careful. We have the experience to manage this type of thing when a young kid becomes a big star. Maybe he is tired, yes because his life changed. He needs to learn from the experience.”

Cole Palmer revealed earlier this season that he was looking to leave Manchester City on loan since the summer of 2022. However, he was asked to stay without the promise of regular minutes and thus jumped on the chance to join Chelsea.
