“In the top category”: Osian Roberts backs former Arsenal midfielder ro become a better coach than Mikel Arteta

Former Spanish World Cup-winning hero Cesc Fabregas has slowly made his name as the next big thing in football management after he was on the receiving end of huge praise from his Como boss Osian Roberts. Fabregas, who is currently the assistant manager at Italian second division side Como, has been regarded by his current boss to achieve big things in management. According to Roberts, Cesc is a better coach than some of the greats of the game including Pep Lijnders, Mikel Arteta and former Arsenal teammate Thierry Henry.

Praise for Cesc Fabregas

“I have worked with and mentored a few bright young coaches, Mikel [Arteta], Patrick [Vieira], ­Thierry [Henry], Pep Lijnders. But Cesc is certainly in the top category. He wants to be a head coach in the future.

“This is the perfect scenario for him as he only finished playing last summer but he gets the opportunity to coach and present as an assistant manager. He was a top-quality player but he is also intelligent.

“He’s a very impressive young man, serious about his work and improving as much as he can.”

After hanging his boots with Monaco, Fabregas did not take a timeout and joined Roberts at Como who currently are fourth in the Serie B. Fabregas a prolific midfielder in his playing days has all the skill set to be one of the best coaches in the world according to Roberts.

Currently, Spain has a great bunch of managers in their ranks including Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta, Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso and Unai Emery. However, already a technically advanced player, Fabregas is now passing the skills to his coaching manuals.

Cesc Fabregas’ stellar playing career

The former World Cup winner enjoyed a stellar playing career and was the No.10 during Spain’s golden generation. He played a key role in Spain’s triumph at Euro 2008 and Euro 2012 while also playing as a False-Nine in the latter tournament. It was his pass to Andreas Iniesta that won Spain the World Cup in 2010 in South Africa.

At the club level also Fabregas enjoyed a superb career; while he was not eligible for silverware during Arsenal’s trophy-winning days in the late 2000’s he was able to win La Liga, Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup. Interestingly, he was unable to win the Champions League in his career and reached the semifinals on three occasions.

It will now be interesting when Fabregas takes the next step and becomes a first-team coach or a manager.
