Why did VAR disallow Hwang Hee-chan’s First Goal After His Injury Return?
Hwang Hee-chan who was out with a hamstring injury for nearly a month found the back of the net against Bournemouth on Wednesday for an off-the-ball incident between Matheus Cunha and Justin Kluivert.
The South Korean forward clocked less than 60 minutes in his last two league fixtures after returning from his minor hamstring issue.
Why was Hwang Hee-chan goal ruled out against Bournemouth?
Wolves forward Hwang Hee-chan created a few promising chances as he played the full 90 minutes in the Premier League clash at Molineux Stadium against Bournemouth.
The Cherries opened the scoring with Antoine Semenyo’s strike in the first half with Wolves finding a route back into the game in the 65th minute when Nelson Semedo’s cross was converted by Hee-chan with a powerful header.
But the goal was ruled out when Stuart Attwell was advised to check the pitchside monitor for an off-the-ball incident between Matheus Cunha and Justin Kluivert. In the footage, the latter shoved Cunha to which the substitute responded by hitting Kluivert in the face with his arm.
The foul was not spotted in real time but Attwell decided to give it with following the advice of VAR Darren England. This sparked an outburst of rage from the Molineux fans who have seen several decisions go against them this season.
What’s the controversy surrounding Stuart Attwell?
The English referee was at the center of another controversy after disallowing a goal from Wolves, just days after denying Nottingham Forest three penalties in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat atĀ Everton.
Atwell was the VAR official in charge when Forest lost 2-0 to relegation rivals Everton, with the away side furious after being denied which were three clear penalties.
Forest later issued an official statement citing their concerns about Stuart Attwell due to his alleged support of relegation-threatened rivals Luton Town.
