VAR Overturns Penalty Decision in Germany vs Scotland game
The first penalty decision of the EURO 2024 has been overturned by VAR. Germany national football team were awarded a penalty for a foul on Jamal Musiala, but the replays showed that the tackle was made outside the box, and the referee’s onfield call was chalked off.
Germany were 2-0 up in their EURO 2024 opener when Musiala drove into the Scotland box. Ryan Christie was chasing the 21-year-old and ended up catching his ankle.
Keiran Tierney also touched Musiala from inside the box, which saw the referee give the penalty straightaway. However, VAR was quick to intervene and rule it out.
Germany were handed a freekick instead, which resulted in a shot on target by Kai Havertz. But the forward’s effort were saved with ease by Angus Gunn to keep the scoreline at 2-0.
Florian Wirtz opened the scoring for Germany on in the opening game of the EURO 2024. The youngster took a shot from outside the box and managed to beat Gunn at the far right post and hand the home side an early lead in the 10th minute.
Wirtz had the opportunity to score earlier in the game, but his shot was saved by Gunn. However, replays showed that the midfielder was in an offside position when the ball was played, and it would have been ruled out if he had managed to get the ball into the back of the net.
Germany did not have wait long for their second after Havertz and Musiala combined inside the box. The forward had the opportunity to shoot with his left foot into the far post, but decided to take a touch and lay it off for the youngster.
Musiala took a slick touch to cut inside onto his right foot and smashed the ball into the net, leaving Gunn no chance to save. Germany did get a penalty later in the half and it was 3-0 to the home side at half time against Scotland national football team.
