Why Jose Mourinho has been banned After Galatasaray’s Legal Action?

The ” Special One ” Jose Mourinho has been the central figure of many argumentative statements in football over the years. Mourinho has been the manager at Porto, Real Madrid, Manchester United and many other iconic clubs as well.

As of now, after cementing his legacy in Europe, Mourinho is now the manager at iconic Turkish club Fenerbahce. The rivalry between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce is very intense and in general Turkish football is renowned for its passionate fanbase as well.

Why is Galatasaray Taking Action Against Mourinho?

Galatasaray are currently first in the Turkish Super Lig and filed a complaint action against the Portuguese manager for his statements after an intense match against Fenerbahce which ended 0-0. Jose Mourinho has already faced some heat for his previous actions, a one-match ban and a fine of £15,000 for his response to Fenerbahce’s 3-2 victory at Trabzonspor.

Mourinho was charged with “unsportsmanlike behaviour towards the opposing team fans “and “bringing down the value of Turkish football.” In the post-match interview, Jose Mourinho made some controversial and outspoken comments, pointing out the partiality of the referees and other match officials.

What Does Galatasaray’s Official Statement Say?

But this time, Galatasaray stated that Jose Mourinho made two absurd statements, namely ” The Galatasaray bench players were jumping like monkeys” after celebrating a challenge won by their team early in the game, and the second statement was ” The match went better because it was not officiated by a Turkish referee.”

“Jose Mourinho has persistently issued derogatory statements directed towards the Turkish people, today, his discourse has escalated beyond merely immoral comments into unequivocally inhumane rhetoric,” the statement said.

It added, “We hereby formally declare our intention to initiate criminal proceedings concerning the racist statements made by Jose Mourinho, and shall accordingly submit official complaints to UEFA and FIFA.”

What are the sanctions on Mourinho?

The ex-Real Madrid manager has been slapped with a four-match ban for his derogatory remarks and in addition, Mourinho also faces a £35,194 monetary penalty following the accusation by Galatasaray as the FA has made their judgment against the Fenerbahçe boss.

The Turkish FA confirmed the suspension, while explaining the reason, “his statements towards the referee of the match, coming to the dressing room where the referees were present, and immediately afterwards, he turned to the Turkish referee, who was the 4th official of the match, and accused Turkish football of chaos and disorder with derogatory and offensive statements that would include both the Turkish football community and all Turkish referees.”

“His statements towards the members of the opposing team in the press conference after the match were contrary to sports ethics and the understanding of fair play. He made statements that could encourage violence and disorder in sports, that contained a divisive and divisive meaning to society and that could cause fan incidents,” the official statement added.
