France vs Spain Preview, Prediction, Lineups and Team News | 2024 Olympics

Preview

  • Date – Friday, August 9, 2024
  • Kick-off Time – 08:00 PM GMT
  • Venue – Parc des Princes, Paris

France and Spain will clash at the Parc des Princes in Paris tomorrow to decide who will take home the gold medal in the men’s football tournament at the 2024 Olympics. Hosts France are looking to join Brazil and Spain among others, who accomplished the feat on home turf, but La Roja are keen to follow in the footsteps of their senior team that clinched the European championship last month, by striking gold at the Olympics.

With five wins in five, Les Bleus will feel confident of their chances here. They won all three of their group matches to canter into the knockout stages before seeing off heavyweights Argentina in the quarter-finals, and then Egypt in the semi-finals on extra time. On the other hand, Spain came second in Group C, having lost to Egypt, but have looked fairly good overall, brushing aside Japan in the last-8 and then overcoming Morocco in the semis.

Manu Kone and Enzo Millot both returned from their suspension and will be available for selection. Former Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette and Michael Olise are likely to operate behind lone striker Jean-Philippe Mateta as head coach Thierry Henry is likely to field the same XI as last time.

Head-To-Head

France and Spain last met at the Olympics back in 1996. The sides were drawn in the same group and played out a 1-1 stalemate. Sylvian Legwinski put the Blues in front after 38 minutes before Oscar equalized for La Roja with only five minutes of normal time remaining. That remains their only prior meeting at the games.

France vs Spain Prediction

Spain are looking to complete the Euro and Olympics double this summer, but France have been the best side in the games. Unlike their senior team, which flattered to deceive at the Euro Cup this year, their under-23 side has surpassed all expectations and now stands on the cusp of history. Given their record in this edition of the competition, it’s hard to see them go down. France for the gold.

Predicted Score: France 2-1 Spain
