Hungary hoping Dominik Szoboszlai can put injury woes behind him
Hungary are sweating over the fitness of star midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai ahead of the upcoming Euro 2024 in Germany this summer. The Liverpool man has struggled with niggles all season and has also had spells on the sideline while playing for the Reds.
As the center-piece of the team, manager Marco Rossi will hope Szoboszlai can regain his fitness and be a part of the Euro campaign.
Dominik Szoboszlai Injury: Extent & Likely Return Date
Szoboszlai’s injury woes began at the turn of the year as he picked up a hamstring injury in early January and missed five games for Liverpool in the time he was recovering. He made his return in Liverpool’s 5-2 demolition of Norwich City in the FA Cup in late January, and even bagged an assist. Days later, he scored as the Reds mauled Chelsea 4-1 at Anfield in the Premier League.
However, Szoboszlai faced a recurrence of his hamstring injury shortly after and had another spell on the sidelines, missing seven games. He returned for Liverpool’s trip to Nottingham Forest in March but was unable to replicate his early-season form again.

Due to the nature of hamstring injuries, players usually need a few days longer to recover considering the sensitivity, and importance of said muscle in the sport. Dominik Szoboszlai was probably rushed back into action after the recurrence of the injury, and will have to be cautious and preserve himself for Euro 2024.
The Hungary captain’s season in numbers
Aged just 23, Szoboszlai has been captain for Hungary for the better part of the last few years. At the start of this season, he completed his long-awaited move to Liverpool from RB Leipzig for a mouth-watering £60 million. However, he has provided a decent return from midfield, bagging seven goals and four assists in 45 appearances across competitions.
The midfielder made his debut for Hungary in 2019 aged just over 18, and has become a mainstay in the setup under coach Rossi. So far, Szoboszlai has made 40 appearances for his country, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists as well. As per a study by Opta, he had the highest goal involvements (4G, 3A), chances created (23), dribbles completed (25) and progressive carries (118) for Hungary during the Euro Qualifiers.
Seeing his impact on games in general, it is no surprise he is a prized possession for both Liverpool and Hungary. Fans of both will be eager to see Szoboszlai be injury-free and keep playing consistently.
