Erik ten Hag lays down the Law: No room for sulking at Manchester United

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has issued a stern warning to his players: no one is allowed to sulk if they’re left out of the squad.

After a turbulent season with Jadon Sancho, Ten Hag is making it clear that team unity and a strong attitude are essential for success.

Erik ten Hag Message: Squad over individuals

Erik Ten Hag has made it known that Manchester United’s success this season will depend on the entire squad not just the starting XI.

Reflecting on last season’s issues, including a public fallout with Jadon Sancho the Dutchman emphasized that every player must be ready to contribute, even if they’re not in the lineup every week.

“We have a squad, and I hope we’ll have double positioning,” Ten Hag stated. “You can’t select all the players for a game, but you need them all throughout the season because this season will be the survival of the fittest.”

Ten Hag’s message is clear: players must stay motivated and handle disappointment professionally. He stressed that the team’s goals will be achieved by the collective effort not individual performances. “The team is always more important than any one individual,” he added.

This approach comes as Manchester United navigates a tricky start to the season with key players like Victor Lindelof, Rasmus Hojlund, and Luke Shaw sidelined due to injuries. Despite these challenges, Ten Hag remains confident in the squad’s depth and quality.

Looking ahead, Ten Hag also urged patience as United continues to pursue new signings including ongoing talks for Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte. “We will always try to make the best squad possible,” he said, hinting that the club is still active in the transfer market.

As the season progresses, Ten Hag’s no-nonsense approach will be crucial in keeping Manchester United on track. With nearly £150 million already spent on new talent the pressure is on to deliver results and Erik Ten Hag is leaving no room for excuses.
