Emi Martinez earned his first international call-up in 2011, but couldn’t make his debut for the Argentina International Football Team that year. After 10 years of wait in 2021, he made his international debut against Chile in a FIFA World Cup qualification match. His expertise in stopping penalty kicks in front of the goal line guided Argentina to the 2021 Copa America final as he saved three spot kicks against Colombia in the semifinals.

His heroics in the final against Brazil led La Albiceleste to Copa America victory and Emi Martinez was awarded with the Golden Glove award for being the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

Despite starting the 2022 Qatar Football World Cup cheaply, Martinez showed the football community why he is considered the best goalkeeper in the world against Netherlands in the quarter-finals following his two penalty saves.

A couple of incredible stops throughout the rest of the tournament especially during penalties in the final against France helped Emi and Argentina win the World Cup title. He won the Golden Glove of the tournament and clinched the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award.  Two years later in 2024, Martinez once again emerged as the hero of the tournament for Argentina as he led his country to another Copa America title.
