Destiny Udogie set to miss the Euro 2024 with a serious injury
Tottenham Hotspur’s Destiny Udogie will miss the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign after picking up a quadricep injury in training earlier this week.
The 21-year-old has flourished in his debut Premier League campaign with Tottenham Hotspur under Ange Postecoglou and registered 30 appearances in all competitions for the North London club.
Why will Destiny Udogie miss the Euro 2024 with Italy?
The 21-year-old left-back sustained a quadriceps injury in training and underwent surgery earlier this week. The Italian full-back has been established as a key player for Ange Postecoglou’s side, nailing down the starting left-back role.
Udogie was initially expected to be available for Spurs pre-season but Postecoglou has now revealed that the defender’s injury will rule him out of Euro 2024.
“A disappointing one for Destiny and for ourselves as well, because he’s been a big part of our year,” the Spurs head coach said “It was just an unfortunate incident in training. He’s had the operation, it’s gone well — so hopefully it gives him time to have pre-season and get back into it. So we’ll miss him.”
Upon asking about Udogie’s absence in Euro 2024, Postecoglou replied: “Yeah, yeah.”
He will now be missing Totteham’s last few crucial games of the season and will likely sit out the European Championships with Italy.
How has Destiny Udogie performed in the 2023/24 season?
The Italian defender has made an instant impact in his debut campaign for the North London club, tallying three assists and two goals in 30 games across all competitions.
Udogie has been one of the best-performing left-backs in the Premier League with an attacking sense and his injury would be a huge miss for both club and country, excluding him from the Euros.
He received his first senior call-up for Italy in October 2023 and has bagged three caps for his country.
