BREAKING: Frenkie de Jong is considering his future with Barcelona

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong sustained an ankle injury last season and has refused to undergo surgery despite missing out on the European Championships with the Netherlands this summer.

The Dutch midfielder remains one of Barcelona’s major uncertainties as he has rejected the club’s pressure to go under the knife which has further delayed his return to the field of play. De Jong is far from a full recovery and would most likely agree to undergo New surgery after the international break.

New manager Hansi Flick hoped that the 27-year-old would be available after the September international break due to the number of injuries he has in the middle of the park.

“I hope he won’t need surgery. He is making progress in his recovery and has taken a significant step forward, but we need to keep waiting. He is training well, though not at 100%, and we’ll assess him day by day,” Flick said in an interview.

Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona looks uncertain

The 27-year-old Dutch midfielder has entered the final two years of his contract and will reportedly consider his future following the conclusion of the 2024/25 regular season. His absence from the regular first-team setup has been felt massively as Barcelona is facing a massive injury crisis in the midfield department.

De Jong has had quite a few rifts with Joan Laporta’s board over the years and he’s now at a crossroads with no clarity over his future with the Catalan giants. He has never allowed Barcelona to pressure him as he’s aware he could depart for free in the summer of 2026.

There are rumours indicating that the midfielder would consider his future next summer due to his ongoing feud with Laporta.
