Cole Palmer comments on with Reece James’ “best in the world” statement
Cole Palmer comments on his skipper’s claim
Chelsea star Reece James heaped praise on Cole Palmer following another incredible performance by him on Saturday, but the latter kindly played it down. Palmer bagged an assist as the Blues came from behind to beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 in the Premier League.
Roped in from rivals Manchester City last summer, Palmer has been a revelation for the London side this season, netting 21 goals in the league, as well as 10 assists. He is easily one of the best signings of the season and is a frontrunner for numerous individual awards.
Following yet more heroics yesterday, his teammate James, who assisted their winning goal at the City Ground, lavished special praise for Palmer, hailing him as among the best players in the world. He said:
“Cole is one of the best in the world, I think personally. You’ve seen what he can do when he gets his chance. At Man City he probably didn’t play as much as he wanted. He came here and took the opportunity with both hands.”
Palmer, standing right next to him in the post-match media address, politely disagreed, but admitted that it’s been a “pleasure” playing at Chelsea this season. He said:
“I wouldn’t go that far, but obviously it’s nice to hear. I’m just trying to keep my feet on the ground, taking it as it comes. It’s all new to me you know, my first season properly playing in the league. But to come to Chelsea and come to a group of lads who have welcomed me like this, it’s been a pleasure.”
The 22-year-old still has two more games to add to his impressive tally, as Chelsea close out their Premier League campaign with fixtures to Brighton & Hove Albion and Bournemouth.
Chelsea back in contention for European football
Following a surge in form which has seen them win thrice in a row, Chelsea are back in contention for European football. With 57 points in the bag from 36 games, the Blues are in seventh position of the Premier League table, but level with Newcastle, who currently take the Conference League play-off spot. As the Magpies play their last two games against Manchester United and a resurgent-Brentford, both away from home, there’s a strong likelihood that they could drop points, opening the door for the Blues to climb into top seven.
