China vs Indonesia Preview
Tournament: World Cup Qualifiers
Date: Tuesday, October 15, 2024
Time: 12pm GMT
Venue: Qingdao Youth Football Stadium
China host Indonesia in Qingdao on Tuesday for a clash in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, looking to end their losing run and finally get a point across the board.
In what’s been an utterly disappointing campaign for them, the Dragon’s Team have lost three of their matches in Group C so far, to sit in the last position in their group without a single point in the bag.
After the 7-0 drubbing at the hands of Japan followed by a 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia, Branko Ivanković’s side were beaten 3-1 by Australia this week, further fading their progression hopes.
The Garuda Team are only three points better off of them, having drawn all their qualifiers thus far. In their most recent outing, Bahrain pegged them back with a 99th-minute equalizer in a 2-2 stalemate, after draws to Saudi Arabia and Australia in their previous two clashes.
China National Football Team News
Head coach Ivankovic has called up 24 players for this month’s fixtures. Zhang Yuning should retain his place in the XI despite firing a blank in their last game. Liu Yang should come back into the XI after making a substitute appearance in their loss to Australia on Friday.
Indonesia National Football Team News
Prolific forward Dimas Drajad, who has six goals from 15 games, should start after being an unused substitute in their last game. There could be changes in the goalkeeper’s position with Nadeo Argawinata coming in for Maarten Paes, who conceded twice to Bahrain in their last game.

Key Players To Watch in China vs Indonesia
Zhang Yuning (China)
He may have fired a blank in their previous clash, but Zhang Yuning remains a key player for the Dragon’s Team with his movements and devastating link-up play. The Beijing Guoan forward also has an eye for goal, netting six times from 34 games for China so far.
Dimas Drajad (Indonesia)
Indonesia have an attacking weapon of its own by the name of Dimas Drajad. He’s netted six times from 15 games for the Garuda Team, which is a good scoring rate for someone who hasn’t made many appearances for the side. He was an unused substitute in their last game and could be unleashed here as Shin Tae-yong’s side hope to return to winning ways.
China vs Indonesia Prediction
The Dragon’s Team are on a low-ebb right now, but Indonesia aren’t the most formidable outfit right now either. They could give them a serious challenge here, but this one should end in a stalemate between two struggling teams.
Prediction: China 1-1 Indonesia
