“Stuck and reverse”- Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino makes interesting Coldplay reference while addressing his first season at the club
Chelsea have turned it around under Mauricio Pochettino
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is a Coldplay fan
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has made an interesting Coldplay reference when assessing his first season at the London club. The Blues, after a difficult start to life under Pochettino, have turned it around in recent matches. Since Boxing Day, the Blues have scored 35 points, with only Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool scoring more.
However, Pochettino’s future has mostly been under scrutiny. The Argentine has now claimed that the Blues’ poor results in the first 10 Premier League games have given the masses a poor perspective. While proving his point, Pochettino brought up Coldplay’s legendary song ‘Fix You’, saying (via GOAL):
“The problem in England, what happens, if after 10 games you are at the top and winning games, what happens after is relative. The problem is we are punished because of the first 10 games. If we count after 10 games, I think we are in the top four. That is the problem because you are punished because of the first 10 games.”
He added:
“Look, I want to be positive. I don’t want to talk anymore. I don’t want to say we are young and we have had to cope with injuries. If not, about the evolution in different aspects of the game and to evolve and be positive. Now it is like we are stuck, like the song of Coldplay, stuck and reverse. We are stuck in every single press conference. Stuck and going back in reverse. [Do] you remember the song? I am a fan [of Coldplay]. The song is Fix You.”
Chelsea currently sit in the eighth spot in the league table with 57 points from 36 matches. They play Brighton away and Bournemouth at home in their remaining two games of the campaign.
Mauricio Pochettino speaks about Chelsea’s successful history
Chelsea have been one of the most successful English clubs since the turn of the century. Pochettino claimed that the Blues’ history makes the ceiling higher and even if his side win the remaining two games of the season, the campaign won’t be considered a successful one. He said (via Blue_Footy on X):
“The history of Chelsea is too much. Even if we win the next two games, it is not going to be a successful season if we are talking about the history of Chelsea.”
Chelsea’s results in the remaining two matches, however, could have a major impact on Pochettino’s future at the club.
