“You’re just chasing headlines!” – Carragher fires back at Neville over top-four prediction
Jamie Carragher has accused Gary Neville of making bold Premier League predictions just to grab headlines after the Manchester United legend suggested Liverpool might not make the top four this season.
The exchange between the two Sky Sports pundits took place on the ‘Stick to Football’ show, thus sparking a heated debate about the upcoming season.
Neville doubts Liverpool’s top-four chances – Carragher reacts
As the new Premier League season approaches Gary Neville shared his thoughts on who he believes will finish in the top four.
Unsurprisingly, he backed Manchester City and Arsenal to secure their spots but his doubts about Liverpool making the cut didn’t sit well with Carragher.
“I’m not sure Liverpool will get into the top four,” Neville said, sparking an immediate reaction from Carragher. The former Liverpool defender was quick to challenge Neville’s prediction, asking, “Do you think Manchester United will get in, but Liverpool won’t?”
Carragher didn’t hold back, accusing Neville of repeating the same prediction every season without much success. “You say this every season without fail. Bookmark this,” he retorted.

Neville who is known for his loyalty to Manchester United admitted he might be wrong but didn’t back down from his stance. He even suggested that Liverpool might struggle to finish in the top six especially with new manager Arne Slot taking over from Jurgen Klopp. Neville further added saying:
“Every season, yeah. I am quite often wrong as well. It gets played back during the season, it’s quite enjoyable – I am going to go Tottenham – the surprise of the season, it can be anything. Surprise Liverpool don’t finish in the top six.”
“You’re saying that to get headlines,” Carragher shot back, pointing out that if Manchester United doesn’t win their first two games Erik ten Hag’s position could be under scrutiny.
With the new season kicking off soon the rivalry between Carragher and Neville is already heating up setting the stage for an exciting campaign. Will Neville’s predictions hold true or will Carragher have the last laugh? Only time will tell.
