Carlo Ancelotti to retire at Real Madrid but not before a certain goal
Real Madrid have inherited the status of the biggest football team in the world as they try to win their 15th Champions League title. The club is already in the news after legendary midfielder Toni Kroos announced his retirement and intention to end his career at the Spanish club. Now it is their manager Carlo Ancelotti who has come out and spoken on his intention and where he wants to end his managerial career as they prepare to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final on Saturday (June 1).
Carlo Ancelotti to retire at Real Madrid?
“I will retire as Real Madrid manager. My career will finish at Real Madrid”, Ancelotti told Repubblica in an interview as Real Madrid build for the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.
“As long as Real Madrid want me to stay, I will be here available for the club,” Ancelotti added.
Ancelotti has enjoyed a successful couple of stints at the Los Blancos having won all the major honours during his spells. The Italian manager widely considered as one of the greatest has made no secret of his intention to retire at Real Madrid along with players like Kroos and Luka Modric.
During his first stint with Real Madrid, Ancelotti won the Champions League, Club World Cup, Spanish Super Cup, Club World Cup and the Copa del Rey before being asked to leave in 2015. He would then return to Madrid in 2021 and in his first season help the club win their 14th Champions League title while also completing the set of league titles. He helped Real win the La Liga title along with the Champions League in 2021-22.
While it was a trophyless 2022-23 season, the Real Madrid board opted to stay with Ancelotti and did not repeat the 2015 mistake. The decision would pay dividends to Real as they now are on the brink of winning the Champions League, while already pocketing the La Liga title.
Ancelotti hints at future decision
Interestingly, Ancelotti has already distanced with some big jobs in the past to stay at Real Madrid and thereby cement his legacy at the club. He was linked with the vacant Brazil national team job and was expected to take over after the current club season. However, he distanced himself from the job and vowed to stay with Real.
In 2023 he was also linked with the Italian national team job and was firmly in the race before pulling out. It will be interesting to see when Ancleotti announces his retirement plan and whether he does it with the most successful football club in the world.
