Brentford vs Arsenal Preview

  • Tournament: Premier League
  • Date: 1st January 2025
  • Kick-off time: 17:30
  • Venue: GTech Community Stadium

Premier League in 2025 kicks off in London with a derby between Brentford and Arsenal. The two sides will be keen on getting all three points and starting the new year with a bang.

Brentford came into the game sitting 11th in the table, with more losses than wins this season. Thomas Frank’ss idea have been brilliant at home and it would not be a surprise if they win the match.

Arsenal are pushing for the Premier League title once again and will see this match as a confidence booster. They are up against a side that have lost just once at home this season and know that a win would do them a world of good.

The home side are without a win in their last four matches in all competitions after their goalless draw at Brighton & Hove Albion. The Gunners struggled to break the Ipswich Town defense at home but managed to get a 1-0 win and move back to 2nd in the league table.

Josh Dasilva, Ethan Pinnock, Kristoffer Ajer, Sepp van den Berg, Mathias Jensen, Aaron Hickey, Rico Henry, Thiago, and Gustavo Nunes are ruled out for Brentford this week. Ben Mee and Mark Flekken remain a doubt for the home side.

Speaking about the two doubtful players, Frank said earlier this week, “On both Flekken and Mee, we have no real update. We’ll know more tomorrow when we really assess them. Hopefully, the injuries aren’t too big.”

Bukayo Saka is the main man out for Arsenal right now, with Ben White also ruled out. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Raheem Sterling will also miss the match.

Sterling might make it in time for the match, as Arteta said earlier this week, “Yes, the news with Raz, I think, is better. We have to see this week how he evolves. We probably expected the knee injury to take longer than it has evolved in the last few days. Hopefully, that’s good news because we need him.”

However, Saka has had surgery and is out for over two months. The Englishman is unlikely to make it to the pitch before March and Arteta said: “I said many weeks so I think it will be more than two months. I don’t know exactly how much longer. It will depend on how the scar tissue starts to heal, the first week or so, the mobility of that. Let’s see it’s very difficult to say. Well it’s always important. Even with Bukay,o we weren’t guaranteed to score three or four goals. We never rely on individuals scoring 25 or 30 goals and we have still managed to be competitive. We’re going to manage to do that.”
