Brendan Rodgers gives an update on Daizen Maeda Injury
Celtic winger Daizen Maeda is set for a spell on the sidelines with an apparent hamstring injury and will miss Saturday’s Scottish Premiership match against St Mirren.
The Japan international scored the opening goal in just 21 seconds in last Sunday’s 3-3 draw with Rangers. He has become a vital player for the Hoops over the past two seasons.
How will Brendan Rodgers deal with Daizen Maeda Injury?
The Japan international scored his ninth goal of the season against Rangers at Ibrox last week and has been a key player for Brendan Rodger’s men this term.
The forward who tends to play wide on the left has suffered a hamstring injury and the Celtic medical staff would be assessing to know the extent of the injury.
With just six games remaining in the Scottish Premiership, any long-term injury will be a huge blow for Celtic’s title run-in hopes for the remainder of the campaign. Manager Brendan Rodgers is unsure whether the 26-year-old winger will return this season.
Rodgers said: “Daizen will miss the weekend. He picked up an injury high in his hamstring, his tendon, so we will have to see what that looks like in the coming weeks. But he is certainly not available for the weekend.
“We will see where it goes in the next week or so and then we will understand better what inclusion he will have between now and the end of the season.
“Liam Scales has picked up a slight strain in his abductor so the likelihood is that he won’t be involved.”
Maeda was signed by Ange Postecoglou over two years ago and has helped Celtic lift four trophies, including a treble last season. The Scottish giants can increase their lead to four points by securing a win on Saturday.
