Assistant Manager or Wildcard? Best FPL Chip Strategies To Consider For GW30

The last international break of this season is now over and players are returning back to their clubs from their national duties, and those who were at the club had a longer time to prepare for the coming gameweek 30. There will be no more breaks until the season is finished, so basically we are at the last quarter of the season where things are starting to get interesting, both in terms of the Premier League table and in terms of Fantasy Premier League.

So the most important question that is floating around the FPL community is when to use the remaining chips that are still intact with the managers. Some managers still have their Triple Captain chip, some are considering Wildcard and some are considering playing their Assistant Manager chip. So let’s take a look at the most popular choices this week, the best FPL chip strategies, and how you can navigate your team during this intense and complicated schedule.

While more than 70% of players are yet to use their Bench Boost this season, the most common dilemma of this gameweek is whether to play the Assistant Manager chip, use the remaining Wildcard, or just use your transfers and keep both chips for future gameweeks. Managers are also waiting for the FA Cup round this weekend as there’s a chance that it will be clear before the deadline of GW30 that which team will get those double gameweek fixtures in GW33 or GW34 as it depends on the result of the FA Cup.

Once the fixtures are confirmed, and if confirmed, based on the results, then it becomes easier for the managers to decide weather to play the Wildcard or the Assistant Manager chip, but let’s talk about how your decision might impact your next gameweeks so you can strategize accordingly.

Assistant Manager or Wildcard Chip

Selecting your FPL choice of chip to play in GW30 depends on the remaining chips you have. One thing to remember is you have only 9 gameweeks remaining, so basically if you still have 3 or 4 chips which include the Assistant Manager chip, then you will be using your chips in 5 or 6 gameweeks out of the remaining 9. The assistant manager chip is probably the most difficult to choose chip as once activated, you have to use it for 3 consecutive gameweeks where you won’t be allowed to play another chip. So in case you are planning to activate your Assistant Manager chip in this GW30, keep in mind that it will remain activated till GW32 so you won’t be able to play any chips during this period, and in case GW33 becomes a big double gameweek where managers usually like to play their Freehit or Bench Boost, if it’s still available, you would want to use your Wildcard and set up your team for that before GW33, which won’t be possible if you play your Assistant Manager chip.

Wildcard, on the other hand, can be a good option this week. You can easily set up your team and spread the funds to prepare for the coming double and blank gameweeks to use your Bench Boost and Freehit chip in those weeks accordingly. But it also depends on a few factors and your strategy. First of all, see how your team lineup is in this gameweek, then wait for the FA Cup round this weekend. If the GW33 fixtures is set and confirmed then you may play your Wildcard this week and roll your saved transfers. If not then you might just use your free transfers if needed or just roll if your team is good enough this week.

If you still have your Bench Boost and Freehit intact, then I highly suggest you keep it like that and use it only after playing your Wildcard to set up your team for the other chips. It’s important to keep in mind that alongside the Premier League, there will be FA Cup fixtures, Champions League, and European Cup fixtures. Fixture congestion and season end always bring with them the usual rotation and injury risks, so make sure you get a good look at the fixtures for the coming gameweeks and the midweek games of other competitions to see which player is at risk and which is freely available because of not being involved in other tournaments.
