Manuel Neuer sets record by surpassing Iker Casillas!

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer set a new Champions League clean sheet record following their 1-0 win over Arsenal on Wednesday. The German was in goal for the Bavarians and made three saves in the game to keep the visitors away.

Joshua Kimmich scored the only goal of the game in the 63rd minute to help the Bundesliga giants win the tie 3-2 on aggregate and reach the semi-finals, where an enticing clash with Real Madrid awaits.

Amid the euphoria, Neuer also celebrated a personal milestone, as the German surpassed Iker Casillas as the goalkeeper with the highest number of clean sheets in the Champions League at 58. This came in his 138th appearance in the competition.

It’s a testament to Neuer’s longevity too, with the Bayern custodian playing in the competition for over 15 years now. He will be keen to add to his tally in the last-four and extend his record further.

Neuer going strong at 38

Bayern Munich custodian Manuel Neuer turned 38 last month but shows no signs of stopping. In 26 games, he’s kept 10 clean sheets, including four in the Champions League from seven appearances. Although the Bavarians ended up conceding their Bundesliga crown this season, Neuer has been one of their bright spots in the squad, quietly doing his job and stepping up for his side whenever needed.
