Bayern Munich extend Eric Dier’s contract until 2025

Bayern triggered an extension clause after only six appearances

Bayern Munich have reportedly extended Eric Dier’s contract until June 2025. The Bundesliga champions triggered the clause after only six appearances by Dier, who had initially joined them on a loan transfer from Tottenham Hotspur at the turn of the year. His was a short-term deal lasting only until the end of the 2023-24 season, but the Bavarians have now extended it by another year, according to The Athletic

Dier fell out of favor with current Spurs manager Ange Postecoglu and was loaned to Bayern. He made his Bundesliga debut in their 1-0 win over Union Berlin on 24 January 2024. Having since made the requisite number of appearances, his move was made permanent today.

The England international has made six appearances for the side, starting four, which shows he’s already established himself in head coach Thomas Tuchel’s starting lineup.

Dier still has room for improvement

Bayern might have extended Dier’s contract, but his performances haven’t been the best. In four starts that he’s made, the Bavarians didn’t keep a single clean sheet, conceding seven goals. According to WhoScored.com, Dier averages just 0.2 tackles and 0.8 blocks per game. He’s also registering 2.8 clearances every game, which shows his excellent vision, but the 30-year-old can do better.
