Barcelona willing to allow Ilkay Gundogan to leave for free with a Manchester City return edging closer
Ilkay Gundogan is set to leave Barcelona just a year after arriving as a free agent. The La Liga giants aren’t going to make any money off of the veteran German midfielder. The 33-year-old looks increasingly likely to return to Manchester City, where he became one of Europe’s most iconic midfield talents.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Barca is prepared to let Gundogan leave for free, and his departure is 100% confirmed. His agent is in talks with City over a return, and Pep Guardiola is happy to be reunited with the Germany international. He had two years left on his contract at Camp Nou but both parties have decided to part ways.
Gundogan was a regular under Xavi last season and many expected to him to resume his role in the Catalans’ midfield under new manager Hansi Flick. He is set to be reunited with the Cityzens where he won five Premier League titles among other honors.
