Barcelona director Deco considers last-minute swoop for Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho

Barcelona sporting director Deco is reportedly considering a bid for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, who continues to face an uncertain future at Old Trafford. The England international has made amends with Erik ten Hag but could still be sold before the transfer window closes next week.

Spanish outlet SPORT reports that interested clubs believe the Red Devils could be willing to sanction a loan move later this month. They are demanding £40 million to sell the former Borussia Dortmund attacker, but no club has been interested in matching that fee as of yet.

Barcelona aren’t looking to do so but are keeping tabs and considering launching a loan move to help bolster Hansi Flick’s winger options. They would be required to pay Sancho’s lucrative wages in full, which might complicate the situation for the La Liga giants, given their financial struggles.

Sancho, 24, spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund after falling out with Ten Hag. He reignited his career after dismal Old Trafford spell, posting three goals and as many assists in 21 games across competitions. He was part of the BvB side that made it to the UEFA Champions League final.

Barcelona have made changes this summer with Dani Olmo arriving from RB Leipzig but need to improve their wage bill to register the Spanish attacker. Ilkay Gundogan is departing Camp Nou, rejoining Manchester City on a free transfer which helps their financial situation.

Chelsea could rival Barcelona for Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho

Chelsea are also thought to be considering swooping for Sancho, and the Blues are in a stronger position to finance the Englishman’s move should he leave Manchester United. There is reportedly a feeling at Old Trafford that the west London giants are going to enter the race for their winger.

Sancho grew up supporting Chelsea, which could play its part in a potential move to Stamford Bridge. He might also be reluctant to relocate to another country, having spent years in Germany before returning to England in 2021. He joined Manchester United from Dortmund for £74 million but hasn’t reached expectations.

Enzo Maresca’s Blues have strengthened this summer with 10 new additions including new wingers. Pedro Neto and Joao Felix have arrived but their spending might not end there.
