Why does Barcelona have the edge over PSG in the race for the versatile Bavarian?
Paris Saint-Germain’s summer targets are already in the pipeline, as they aim to add more strength to their midfield. Even though the capital club has been linked to many players, Joshua Kimmich seems to be the standout.
The versatile German is under contract with Bayern Munich until 2025, after which he’ll have to decide his future. If Kimmich wishes for a new chapter, there will be several suitors with PSG and FC Barcelona among them.
As per reports, the Catalan side has the upper hand in securing the 29-year-old as the Spanish media claim the Barca contract is more attractive.
Last season, he was seen having a close chat with Xavi Hernández and was close to taking the next step, but the Blaugrana club could not support the deal financially.
Moreover, the news is that the German giants will not let him go for anything less than €50 million, although they are still exploring a more beneficial deal, as they eye two more interesting Barça players. For now, their prime targets are Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong hoping Kimmich’s card would give the way.
Bayern Munich will try using the midfielder as a bargaining element to reduce the transfer fee of Araujo or de Jong, by exchanging the player and adding some extra cash. However, it all comes down to the player’s choice and most importantly their value to the club.
For now, Kimmich seems interested in joining Barcelona, having given the green light a year ago with Barcelona also looking at it as a crucial move. It will be interesting to how things pan out with PSG.
