Barcelona Injury update: Two big stars expected to be fit for PSG clash

Barcelona Injury Update: Frenkie de Jong and Pedri expected to return

Barcelona are expecting to have their talismanic midfield duo of Frenkie de Jong and Pedri for the first leg of their Champions League clash against PSG next month. Both players picked up injuries during their La Liga match against Athletic Bilbao earlier this month but are close to returning.

On 4 March, during the Catalans’ goalless stalemate at the San Mames, De Jong succumbed to an ankle injury whereas Pedri took a knock to his hamstring, with both players sidelined ever since. They even missed the international break for their respective national sides.

But in a positive development, the players are set to return soon. Barcelona’s technical staff expect De Jong and Pedri to return for the first leg of their Champions League encounter against PSG at the Parc des Princes on 10 April.

Their availability will obviously be a huge selection boost for Xavi, who is aiming to leave the side by guiding them to their sixth Champions League title. The Spaniard announced his departure in February when the club went through a rough patch, although things have improved since then.

PSG and Barcelona resume their famous rivalry

PSG and Barcelona have met several times in the Champions League, and are set to renew hostilities again next month in what promises to be another fascinating encounter between two talented European giants. Their last meeting in the competition came back in 2021, when PSG knocked out Barcelona out in the round of 16 following a 5-2 aggregate victory, which includes a stunning 4-1 win at the Camp Nou, powered by a sensational Kylian Mbappe hat-trick. It will be interesting to see what the fixture produces this time around.
